Adding and editing pages

All of the instructions below assume you have already logged into WordPress. You’ll know you’re logged into WordPress either by the fact that you’re in the WordPress dashboard or you see a black bar at the top of every page that looks like this:

There are several types of content to work with on your new site:

Adding Pages

Pages -> Add New
Add your page’s title to the title bar near the top of the page.

Add text content to the big text box in the middle.

To add a link
  • Select the text you want to turn into a link
  • choose the icon from your editing toolbar that looks like links in a chain.
  • Either paste a URL or select a link to an existing story.
  • click “Add Link.”
To add an image
  • Position your cursor where you want the image to be.
  • Click Add Media
  • Select any image that is currently in your image library by clicking on it.
  • To insert multiple images click the first image, hold down your control key, and click another image.
  • Click Insert into page and your image or images will land in the page.
To edit an image
  • Click the image to resize it.
  • To edit it, click the icon that looks like a little mountain. Now you can:
    • change the image size,
    • change its alignment,
    • and add a title, alternative text, or a caption.
    • Click the Update button to save
When you’re done
  • For new pages click the Publish button on the right side of the page.
  • For existing pages click the Update button in the same place.

Click View Page beneath the page title to view your changes.

To add your page to the menu
  • Go to Appearance -> Menus
  • Select Main Top Menu (Main Menu) per the picture below:

  • Click the checkbox next to page you want to add to the menu and choose Add to Menu.
  • Drag and drop the page you added to position it where you want in the menu.

  • Click Save Menu.
  • Fishing Reports and News Events

    Fishing Reports and News Events are under WordPress’ Posts menu. Only Posts can be added to the Breaking News section on the front page of the site.

    Creating a new fishing report or event
      • Click Posts -> Add New
      • A Post looks almost exactly like a page and you can treat it the same way.
    Categorizing your post

    If you want your post to show up under a certain section (News, Fishing Reports, etc.) you need to categorize it.

        • Deselect “Uncategorized” and select instead the News category and the Events category. That will make sure your post shows up under both the news and events pages.

    If you want your post to show up as a Fishing Report select the Review Monthly Fishing Reports category.

    To add a link
    • Select the text you want to turn into a link
    • choose the icon from your editing toolbar that looks like links in a chain.
    • Either paste a URL or select a link to an existing story.
    • click “Add Link.”
    To add an image
    • Position your cursor where you want the image to be.
    • Click Add Media
    • Select any image that is currently in your image library by clicking on it.
    • To insert multiple images click the first image, hold down your control key, and click another image.
    • Click Insert into page and your image or images will land in the page.
    To edit an image
    • Click the image to resize it.

      • change the image size,

      • Click the Update button to save
    Featured Image
        • Click Set featured image in Featured Image link.
    To Add your post to Breaking News
        • Apply the tag “breaking news” to your post.
        • Right sidebar -> Tags section -> Choose from the most used tags -> breaking news
    To remove a post from Breaking News
      • Edit the page you want to remove.
      • Go down to Tags and remove the breaking news tag by clicking the x next to it.
